One of the exciting moments in a new project - the hole is dug, and formwork is going in for the footings. This is a project of mine in the hills east of Duluth. For some reason this picture reminds me of an archaeological dig. Macchu Picchu perhaps?
The contractor in this case is using an interesting, innovative type of formwork for the footings. It consists of rectangular plastic tubes that stay in place after the pour. They then become the drain tile, saving several installation steps and ensuring that water will be properly drained away from the basement. A great idea!
